The definitive guide to shiatsu massage chairs

massage chair reviewThe Fujikura 2000 massage chair retails for this price and comes with an intelligent 4 roller system that conforms to the contour of your spine and a special neck massage function that directly targets stress relieving "tsubo points" on your neck. It also has other features such as 26 air bags - 20 of which are in the foot and calf massager - as well as arm massagers. The massage modes include: rolling, kneading, shiatsu results, compression and percussion, chop action and flapping. As an added bonus, the massage chair comes with a music therapy system and soothing soundwaves.

Fujikura is a Japanese company that makes the best shiatsu massage chair. buy one designed by a Japanese electronics company. The Sanyo HEC-SA5000K Massage Chair is the real deal and retails for around $4,300. It's a lot of money, I know, but you really are getting something that is in the top tier. It's a very stylish chair but more importantly, it comes with physical body shape detectors that will automatically adjust the massage rollers to your particular body shape to deliver a custom massage.

Overall I rate this massage chair 10/10

Family Inada D.5

For the first time, use a voice activated control system!

The Family Inada company have incorporated a new voice recognition system that not only allows complete voice control of the recline angle and roller programs, but activation of the kneading and tapping programs by simple word commands!

The lower arm is where some of the main shiatsu meridians converge, including those connecting to the respiratory and circulatory organs like the lungs and the heart. You may have noticed how massage professionals pay special attention to their treatment of the lower arm. Our research into lower arm massage techniques has resulted in the new Triple Action Arm Massage, a special feature of the Inada RoboChair. Newly designed air cushions feel like human hands as they wrap all the way around to grip the arm firmly. Next, pressure is applied from below to lift along each shiatsu point in turn, and the points are then massaged with a realistic action that mimics the human hand.

The Triple Action massage extends its all-enveloping touch down to the palm, which as the endpoint of some of the main shiatsu meridians can be the repository of fatigue. It even works on the fingertips to stimulate blood flow, as the fingers are the nexus of some of the main circulatory points that hold a network of capillaries carrying the blood from the arteries to the veins. The INADA Triple Action Arm Massage mirrors the technique and sensitivity of the most talented massage professional.

Air cushions squeeze arm firmly to release tightness in lower arm.
Pressure from below lifts shiatsu points.
Air cushions work like human hands to apply a strong massage to lower arm.

To get the most out of your massage, adjust the Triple Action Arm Massage unit to cover any area on the arm from the inner elbow to the fingertips by sliding the unit up and down the arm rest, helping to release tight muscles in the forearm and stimulating blood vessels in the fingertips.

The veins in the sole of the foot are at the lowest point of the body, so blood flowing down the legs through the arteries can easily start to collect here. Professional shiatsu therapists start their massage from the toes, where the capillaries are located, stimulating the veins to increase circulation so blood can be returned to the heart. The bottom of the foot is probably one of the most critical parts of any body massage.

The Whole Foot Shiatsu unit on the Inada RoboChair uses air cushions above and below the foot to apply firm pressure to each toe, while ankle air cushions work hard to massage the difficult heel area, resulting in a pleasant relaxing sensation and a deeply effective massage. A special vibrating mechanism works specifically on the arch of the foot, site of some important shiatsu points. The Whole Foot Shiatsu works together with the air cushions at the calf and lower leg to apply the kind of intense stimulation that will help get sluggish blood flowing again.

Air cushions at the tips of the toes massage each toe and the sole of the foot.
Relaxing pressure envelops ankle and heel area.
Vibrating mechanism under foot releases shiatsu points in the sole of the foot to stimulate circulation.

The most effective way to stimulate circulation in the legs is to massage the legs in a raised position, because keeping the weight off the blood vessels makes it easier for the veins to return the blood to the heart. You can use the automatic Inada RoboChair foot rest to raise your legs to any position, while the Whole Foot Shiatsu unit keeps in full contact with your feet at all times, so you can enjoy the full effects of the foot massage at any angle.

The foot rest moves up and down, while the Whole Foot Shiatsu unit slides back and forth to stay in contact with the foot.

Simply massaging the area that hurts or feels tight is not going to have a lasting effect. Professional massage therapists dont just treat the area that is experiencing the symptoms. Then also seek out the most effective shiatsu points for maximum massage benefits, selecting the most effective massage technique and appropriate pressure on the points in the most beneficial order. Our research has drawn on the methods of professional massage therapists to create Healthcare Programs, or pre-programmed massage sessions that target different body areas or wellness objectives. With the Inada RoboChair, these sessions have further evolved into Full Body Healthcare Programs, since weve added the lower arm and foot shiatsu points to programs that already targeted the back, thigh and calf. Weve also added two new programs, Morning and Nighttime, which incorporate European and Chinese techniques, to offer a full complement of five different Healthcare Programs.

ABOUT FAMILY INADA

FAMILY Inada is a manufacturer of Japans No. 1 selling luxury shiatsu massage chair, the INADA chair. The company was founded in Japan in 1962, introducing the worlds first therapeutic massage chair. Since its inception, the company has been devoted to designing and building therapeutic massage devices for home use and holds many international patents in the field. With sales divisions in the U.S., Germany and S.E. Asia, FAMILY Inada is creating a healthy living environment for all as a leader in the advanced research and development of massage related technology

The INADA Chair is the synergy of Eastern medical wisdom and modern technology. The ultimate goal of massage is to enhance the bodys natural healing ability by releasing stress and promoting circulation. According to Eastern medicine, the key to good health is maintaining a balance the yin and yang elements in the body, including the relationships between the upper and lower body, left and right, and front and back. The body has more than 350 pressure points aligned with the internal organs along the meridians. Stimulation of specific pressure points through kneading, tapping or pressing can energize the internal organs, helping some cases to slow or possibly prevent the onset of disease. The INADA Chair is the only chair that relies on the techniques and knowledge of professional massage and shiatsu therapists.

The INADA Chair is the only shiatsu massage chair that uses a state-of-the-art infrared technology to scan your body, detect pressure points and give you customized massage programs. With the infrared pressure point detection technology, the INADA Chair became the best-selling luxury shiatsu massage chair in Japan. The chair was designed by shiatsu and massage therapy professionals to give you the benefits of traditional Japanese acupressure massage everyday, at your convenience, in your home or office. The chair can help you take command of your health by aiding in the release of disease-causing stress, enhancing the healing effects of sleep and relieving job-related fatigue.

The INADA Chair is sold as a "Medical Chair" in Japan. It was approved by the Japanese government in 1998 for use in non-clinical massage and acupressure therapy and is marketed for home-therapeutic medical purposes in Japan.

The INADA Chair is now registered and approved by the FDA as a medical device.

FEATURES

FAMILY INADA was the first to introduce an automatic infrared pressure point detection system. Today, each INADA chair recognizes Shiatsu pressure point locations for over 100 body types. Your INADA massage experience will begin with an infrared body scan that identifies your central pressure points. The chair then adjusts its internal mechanisms to match your body type and customize your massage. This incredible flexibility makes the INADA chair an investment that can be used by the entire family.

ULTRA-SLOW Variable massage movement is unique to the INADA Chair
Designed to mimic the hand movements of a massage therapist, this proprietary "Human Touch" technology provides a wider range of variation in kneading, tapping, rhythm shiatsu and combination strokes. Multi-directional air bags and vibration systems work together to ease tension in the arms, lower body and thighs.

The INADA Chair is designed to respond to individual needs
A series of massage programs developed by the FAMILY INADA design team allow you to choose the right massage for your body, on any given day, anytime. For example, one program is designed for the morning, to rejuvenate and energize the entire body, while another is designed for night time, to soothe and relieve the tensions of the day. You can concentrate on certain parts of the body, or focus on a single area such as your back, your shoulders or your feet.

Some Reviews of Inada Chair:

Health: The Modern Massage
Newsweek International Editions
"The Japanese company Inadas latest chair, the D.1 massager ($4,900), has infrared sensors that seek out each users pressure points." (August 4, 2003)

Sitting Pretty:
The Inada D.1 is a high-tech massage chair with a surprisingly firm grip

TIME Magazine
"Automatic massage devices tend to shake you until youre numb. The D.1 ($4,900) is more sophisticated than that. It uses a system of computer-controlled rollers that firmly and methodically press into your back. While that mechanism lulls you into bliss, inflatable air bags squeeze your hands, forearms, feet and calves to release tension and increase blood flow. Developed in Japan and coming to the U.S. next month, the D.1 feels like a professional shiatsu massage, but with greater privacy and convenience." (July 14, 2003)

MUST HAVE: THE HOT SEAT
Newsweek U.S. Edition
"Quit begging your spouse for back rubs. Theres finally a massage chair that delivers spa-worthy rubdowns... Inadas new D.1 recliner, in supple black leather, soothes your entire body -- even the supersensitive hands and feet... Or try the cheaper H.9 in retro-chic mustard yellow. This $3,500 version doesnt do hands or feet, but its synchronized music program matches the massaging motion to your favorite CDs. Our Tip Sheet testers loved alternating between Miles Davis and Kurt Cobain. Nirvana, indeed." (August 18, 2003)

Inada Chair H.9: Turbo charged Magic Fingers. A massage chair takes Shiatsu to new tech heights
Business 2.0
Though no device has quite the touch of true carbon-based hands, the Inadas ultra-slow kneading and pressing is about as close as it gets. After sitting in it for just ten minutes, I have that coveted, wheres-my-drool-bib looseness. Thats what were here for. And everything on the chair ?intensity, narrowing or widening of the rollers, and the backrest itself ?is so adjustable, I guarantee that event the most particular sitters will get a satisfying rubdown. (Jan. 7, 2003)

Hot Seat: A Chair That Knows Where it Hurts
BusinessWeek
I tested the chair on a Tokyo shopping excursion. I dont know if a steady diet of shiatsu can ward off disease, but the contracting and expanding air bags pumped energy into my weary legs. And the neck massage felt heavenly. (Dec. 23, 2002)

The Masseuse You Sit On
Popular Science
The H.9 scans your body, then its roller go into action. They hit all my pressure points, provoking groans (the good kind). During the 15-minute full-body program, the chair pressed and kneaded my shoulders, rear end, calves, back, and neck, even rolling up to the base of my skull. (February 2002)

There are plenty of massage chairs...
TIME Magazine
There are plenty of massage chairs that will vibrate energetically up and down your weary body, but the new H.9 Inada Chair from Japan puts some brains behind the brawn.

(Nov. 19, 2001) A Digital Chair That Can Sense And Relieve the Pain
New York Times
The Inada massage chair harnesses technology that makes the La-Z-Boy seem lazy indeed. (Oct. 11, 2001)
